I Went Apple Picking, Now What?

My kids and I have been going apple picking every Fall since, I don’t even remember. One of the first years we went Thomas was still a baby and my husband had him in a baby carrier on his chest. I love to go. We pick apples, eat donuts and just have fun! It is a great family tradition, which I hope they carry on with their own children. It is a great way to make family memories and to spend quality time with the kids.

My kids are now teens and I think they go more for me, then for themselves. So, I try to think of new ways to make it fun. I let them try all the different apples and other fruits. We go to a farm that has all kinds of fruit not just apples, so there is a variety of fruit to pick.

We went today and I let them climb the ladders and get the fruit at the top of the trees. They thought it was fun to throw the apples down to me and see if I could catch them. Then they took turns throwing apples to each other. When we were done, of course we had to get donuts. Butternut Farm, in Farmington New Hampshire, is where we go almost every year, expanded and now has Ice-cream. So, Rylee and her friend got ice-cream and Thomas got donuts for him and his dad. I also some fresh hard cider for my husband to try.

It is so much fun to pick apples, but those bags fill up fast. I usually go home with about three bushels of apples. I have thrown away so many rotten apples over the years because I just didn’t know what to do with them. I started skowering Pinterest for apple recipes and now have a whole board dedicated to apples recipes.

Now that you have gone apple picking what are you going to do with all those apples? You don’t know. Well, here is a list of my top five favorite apple recipes.
