My family and I were all just sitting around one spring night about 4 years ago and the kids asked if we wanted to play manhunt. I love spending time with my kids, but I hate running! So, I reluctantly agreed with some convincing. I think we were out there for maybe 15 minutes when it happened. I was running towards home based, knowing I was going to get tagged, because I wasn’t trying to run real fast! We were all laughing and having a good time until something went terribly wrong!
There is a big rock on my side lawn that is mainly under ground and there is just a flat surface that pokes out of the grass. I know it was there, but didn’t think anything of it because it is flat. So, I am running and it had rained earlier that day and the rock was wet and slippery, apparently. Well, I slipped and went flying, I swear it was like 15 feet, I am sure it was more like 5, but it felt like 15. Of course parked in the driveway was my husband’s plow. It was off the truck because it was spring and there was no snow. I hit that damn plow just right in the corner. My glasses went flying and my head was pounding I swore I saw stars! I didn’t think my glasses were broke, I thought they were just on the ground, so I warned everyone to stay away. I started patting the ground trying to find them, but I couldn’t see 1. due to the blood pouring from my forehead and 2. I am blind without my glasses. It was also dark, which was also a mistake on our part. So, I finally found them in two piece on the ground. I was so preoccupied with my glasses at that point that I didn’t even notice that my head gushing blood!
I went into the house with my husband’s help and was trying not to cry, but I was in a lot of pain. I didn’t want to freak out the kids, but I felt really bad. I was dizzy and nauseous and just felt really weird. I was contemplating going to the hospital, even though I hate going to the doctors. So, I send the kids to the bathroom for supplies and I almost lose it to my husband- I am holding back tears and not doing well at all. I decided not to go to the hospital after I calmed down, again not wanting to upset the kids. Of course my husband kept saying, “I hope my plow is okay”.
Now, lets remember I hit a metal plow head first after flying through the air for 5 feet! I hit that thing hard! (I would have been laughing my ass off if it had happened to anyone else, I am sure)
The wound closed and I barely have a scar now, but I did need to get new pair of glasses and I swore to never play manhunt again in the dark.
Lesson learned-this is one of the reasons why I am not running unless someone with a knife is chasing me!
